Faber Castell PITT Pens Vs Ballpoint
So having completed various ink sketches using Bic Biro Ballpoint pen and now having also tried the Faber Castell PITT pens, I’d like to share with you my thoughts.
Ok so the ballpoint is cheap, fun and very versatile. Good for crosshatching and respond nicely to different pressures. However this is a writing tool and not made for this specific purpose. The Bic may be the god of doodle; however the down side to this is the very nasty ink shine. A lot like the shine you get with a soft graphite pencil but a lot worse. Not very nice to deal with although may be toned down using a matt sealant spray.
The Faber Castell PITT pens on the other hand are designed specifically for the sole purpose of high quality art and illustration. The Manga Black goes deep and direct, giving you an amazingly smooth ‘none shiny’ professional finish. However because the ink is so direct, if you’re used to using ballpoint pens it may take you a while to get a feel for the flow. I will be sticking to these pens from now on, they’re awesome.
